I think it's pretty clear that Powell felt betrayed (and probably for good reason) by the Bush Administration over how he was used as a pawn to the UN for the Iraq War. I think its clear that the intelligence wasn't as good as everyone thought it was, and there was potentially some information being withheld, but he was asked to make the case for the war.
Given Powell's comments regarding how wars should be prosecuted (while Chairman of the Joint Chiefs during Bush I and Gulf War I), I think he found this to be a personal betrayal.
We are doing in Iraq now, what he thought should never be done again based on Vietnam experience, which is nation build, and use our troops for things other than destroy the enemy and have a clear goal when we do it. Our goals are anything but clear.

Powell isn't the one making decisions. It's not his place to judge the policies he's been ordered to implement. He can resign or follow instructions, as he sees fit.
Unless he sees something sufficiently egregiously wrong as to be criminal (and no, despite the Dem efforts to claim otherwise, nothing currently associated with the Iraq war qualifies), he should also keep his mouth shut about his own judgements if they undercut the intended policies of his political leader.
That's true for both Republicans and Dems, There's enough criticism from the outside.
Powell, oddly enough, has also just finished expressing his support for one of the biggest crooks in Alaska's politics. At one point, I respected him, but he's doing just about everything possible to eliminate every last vestige of that respect.

*Assuming* you're talking about the comments denigrating Powell, I have three words for you:
"Hillary", "Clinton", & "PUMA".
I think you need to worry about the beam in your own eye before you comment about ours.
And let's throw in some more:
Joe, Lieberman, Iraq War Support.
Lieberman is and has been a steady Democratic supporter for a long time now. He votes against the party line on exactly *ONE* issue, and they try and feed him to the wolves. What's that about Greek Gods and sibling edibility again?
I suspect the negative commentary about Powell will die down a lot faster than that from the Clinton camp about Obama... which happens to still be going on as I write this.
(And I'm not claiming the PUMAs are not justified -- there is some clear evidence that Obama's ACORN cronies may have rigged things "just a bit"... Just that, assuming you're trying to paint somehow Saturn eating his children as a metaphor for Powell & the Right, that would be rather amusingly ironic. Also note: Powell's luster has been fading for some years, although I doubt you've noticed it. An internet blog search will show this, though.)

Powell was a dumb ass. A yes man. AN uncle tom. How come I KNEW. How come nobody trusted the inspectors. besides what business was it of ours whether he had any? Are we part of Israel? What did he have to do with 9-11? Any moron could tell that Osama was a zealot and Sadaam was a secular leader, trying his best to keep out of our(Israel) way. Yes thats right. Israel runs america. Who else benefitted from 9-11? Why did we let them get away with the USS Liberty attack? Why did we release the 5 suspects we had on 9-11?(Israeli operatives)Why would some clueless ragheads hijack a plane? Doesnt make sense. Powell is less than average as a man and a soldier. he is criminal. He should be arrested for treason.
