I completely disagree. I don't think being shallow or deep is directly correlated with what you value, but with the amount of thought and honesty in one deciding what is important to them. I've met several deep people who are driven by their work and hold most of their family (in my opinion sometimes rightly so) to be people of very little integrity or value.
